The Sonnenalp name and our tradition of hospitality go back nearly a century to Ofterschwang, Bavaria where, in a simple ranch house, the Faessler Family opened a hotel that epitomized the finest in personalized service in beautiful surroundings. The spectacular setting in Bavaria inspired the Sonnenalp name sun on the Alps a name that translated perfectly when the Faessler family fell in love with Vail and opened a hotel there in 1979.
