The Sonnenalp name and our tradition of hospitality go back nearly a century to Ofterschwang, Bavaria, where, in a simple ranch house, the Faessler Family opened a hotel that epitomized the finest in personalized service in beautiful surroundings. The spectacular setting in Bavaria inspired the Sonnenalp name – “Sun on the Mountains” – a name that translated perfectly when the Faessler family fell in love with Vail and opened a hotel here in 1979. Four generations after our humble beginnings, the Sonnenalp Resort of Vail is a thriving part of the family of Sonnenalp Resorts, offering the same warmth and hospitality as the original Bavarian ranch house in a setting of true luxury.
